Three films from the Eastern and Central European region made it to this year’s 25 FPS competition program.

“Marko Tadic’s Moving Elements focuses on the creative processes that lead to making art. A car passes through all the stages of creative art process and becomes part of art works, as well as a player in abstract processes of creating. The film is meant as a tribute to filmmakers and films made in the golden age of the Zagreb School of Animation. To a certain extent it uses a visual language characteristic of the period – the 1960s and the 1970s.”

Rhus Typhina was made by Georgy Bagdasarov and Alexandra Moralesova in 2014. The structure of the film is based on the chemical formula of the Rhus Typhina`s developer. The main protagonist of the film is a species of flowering plant in the family Anacardiaceae which leaves and berries have been mixed with tobacco and other herbs and smoked by Native American tribes. The film catches the research, experiments, harvesting and preparation of the film developer in which latter original negative was developed. The nonlinear structure of the chemical formula as well as nonlinear research of the process reflected in a order of the frames. There is no post-production except sound all editing work is made while film was loaded in camera before chemical development.”

Ivan Faktor is a well-known experimental filmmaker, photographer and video artist in Croatia and abroad. At this point we do not have any information about his latest film Sve bih ostavio ovdje.

25 FPS Festival screens independent and non-commercial films which innovatively explore the possibilities of cinematic language, narration and the medium itself, cross film types and genres and broaden the notion of film as art. It promotes expressive original concepts, progresses in terms of theme, idea and aesthetics, as well as works that perpetuate the tradition of avant-garde and experimental film.
